Spare Drone Warranty Activation
This article outlines the warranty activation on spare drones and specifies the coverage provided under the warranty.
Drone activation
If you have a drone that needs to be replaced, a spare drone can be activated through the Customer Portal, after updating to 2.11.1 or higher. For more information on the drone activation, please see here.
Warranty start date
The warranty coverage for the spare wing begins upon successful configuration by our Partner and lasts 12 months. If the spare wing is used as a warranty replacement, it will inherit the warranty of the primary drone and become a new primary drone. If the remaining warranty period of the spare drone (now the primary drone) is longer than that of the original primary drone, the new primary drone will be covered by the longer warranty period. For peace of mind, we strongly recommend keeping the warranty of the primary drone active at all times, with the purchase of SYW or TMP+, as it will overwrite the warranty status of the spare drone.
Need for a spare wing activation
Once there is a need for a wing replacement, you can activate the spare wing through mywingtra.com as the replacement for your primary drone. The primary drone will be deactivated until further assessment has been done by your Dealer and Wingtra.
Make sure to contact your Dealer with details such as flight logs, images of the error or damage (if any), and a clear explanation related to the issue. Once the analysis is complete, if the primary wing can be repaired, you will be instructed to reactivate the primary drone and thus, return the spare drone to your inventory.
The spare drone may not be used simultaneously with the drone it is replacing, since it inherits the primary drone's license(s). For more information related to the spare drone conditions see the link.
Warranty replacement of the primary drone with spare drone in stock
Suppose you have an issue with your primary drone and you have activated the spare wing to reduce downtime and resume their project. The primary drone will be deactivated and you will send logs to your Dealer for further assessment. If there is a need for a replacement due to technical reasons, the spare drone will inherit the warranty of the primary drone and Wingtra will coordinate the warranty replacement process of the new drone, which will become the new spare drone.
Paid replacement of the primary drone with spare drone in stock
In cases where the primary drone does not have an active warranty or the damage was due to a user’s fault, you can still activate the spare drone in your inventory. The spare drone warranty is activated with the date of its purchase and has a 12-month warranty.
In this case, Wingtra will not initiate the free replacement of the primary drone. However, for peace of mind and seamless business continuity, we recommend the purchase of a new spare drone. The warranty of the spare drone will be initiated with the date of its purchase.
Wingtra offers extended service plans such as the Second Year Warranty (SYW) or Total Maintenance Plan (TMP+) for additional coverage. These plans allow you to extend the warranty coverage to the drone and the accessories, such as cameras, drivetrain, etc.
Possible scenarios:
Scenario 1:
You have purchased the WingtraOne bundle together with the spare wing. WingtraOne's primary drone sustained damages due to technical issues, while the camera remains undamaged and functional. The primary drone has 2 months left before the expiration of the warranty.
Once you are not able to fly, you can immediately activate the spare wing. This action will set the primary drone to “deactivated status” and the dealer will ask you to send logs and details of the situations related to the issue to help resolve the issue promptly.
With successful activation, the spare wing will continue to have the remaining 2-month warranty (inherited from the primary drone). Your Dealer will arrange the replacement of the damaged drone which will become a new spare wing. The replacement drone will inherit the warranty status of the primary drone.
Additionally, the camera keeps the remaining 2 months of the damaged drone's warranty duration. To extend the warranty coverage of the drone, camera, and other add-ons from the replaced drone, consider purchasing a SYW or a TMP+. These plans offer comprehensive coverage for accessories and additional components.
Scenario 2:
The user’s WingtraOne has active SYW or TMP+ while the spare drone’s warranty has expired. The primary drone has encountered some issues and the spare drone condition needs to be assessed by the dealer and Wingtra.
Once you are not able to fly, you can immediately activate the spare wing. This action will set the primary drone to “deactivated status” and the Dealer will ask you to send logs and details of the situations related to the issue to help resolve the issue promptly.
A spare drone will become a new primary drone as well as inherit its warranty (even though the spare drone’s purchase was more than 12 months ago). Active SYW or TMP+ on the primary drone will overwrite the warranty of the spare wing.
If there is a need for a replacement, your Dealer will coordinate the warranty replacement process of the new drone, which will become the new spare drone.
If there is no need for a drone replacement, you will be instructed to reactivate the drone, thus returning the spare drone to your inventory.
Scenario 3:
You have purchased the WingtraOne bundle together with the spare wing. The initial warranty of 12 months on both units has ended. Your WingtraOne has experienced an issue requiring a replacement, but its camera remains in good condition.
Once you are not able to fly, you can immediately activate the spare wing, moving the payload to a spare wing. This action will set the primary drone to “deactivated status” and the Dealer will ask you to send logs and details of the situations related to the issue to help resolve the issue promptly.
In this scenario, the warranty of the spare wing has ended (since it was initiated with the purchase date and lasted 12 months. If the spare wing is used after the initial 12-month warranty period, we suggest contacting your Dealer for more information related to the potential purchase of an extended warranty, SYW, or a TMP+. For peace of mind and seamless business continuity, we recommend the purchase of a new spare drone. The warranty of the spare drone will be initiated with the date of its purchase.
Scenario 4:
The end-user purchased the spare wing 6 months after purchasing a Wingtra bundle. The initial warranty of 12 months on Wingtra bundle has ended and the wing needs to be replaced.
Once the end user is not able to fly, they can immediately activate the spare wing, moving the payload to a spare wing. This action will set the primary drone to “deactivated status” and the dealer will ask the customer to send logs and details of the situations related to the issue to help resolve the issue promptly.
In this scenario, the warranty of the spare wing will expire in the period of 6 months and since the spare drone has become a new primary drone, it will inherit the remaining warranty of the spare wing.
