Update WingtraOne and WingtraPilot - legacy SD card update process
Learn how to update the software of your WingtraOne and WingtraPilot. Both systems always need to run on the same software version!
The latest version of WingtraPilot and WingtraOne available for WingtraOne GEN I drones is V2.11.2. Later versions are only available for WingtraOne GEN II drones.
You will benefit from the software updates that Wingtra provides for both WingtraPilot and WingtraOne firmware. When connected to the internet, WingtraPilot will notify you when a new update is available with the following message:

To enable the latest software improvements, follow the instructions below to update WingtraPilot and WingtraOne.
The update process consists of three main steps
- Download the latest version
- Update WingtraPilot
- Update WingtraOne
Step 1: Download the latest Wingtra version
/images/screenshots_v1.9/WiP_update_downloadRelease.jpg)
- Open WingtraPilot
- Go to the Update menu in the Settings tab
- On the left side (A), you will see information about the latest Wingtra release and a notice that this version has not yet been downloaded. The Wingtra version includes both WingtraPilot and WingtraOne firmware. You can also review previous versions in the dropdown menu
- Note: There is no need to update one version at a time. If you missed an update, you can jump straight to the latest version and update both WingtraPilot and WingtraOne directly
- On the right side (B), click Download the latest Wingtra vX.Y.Z to start the download. Make sure you are connected to the internet
- Wait until the top progress bar is full and displays Download complete in (B). If the download does not complete within five minutes, close WingtraPilot and try again
- Now you can proceed with the WingtraPilot update
Step 2: Update WingtraPilot
/images/screenshots_v1.9/WiP_update_updateWiP.jpg)
- In (A), click Update WingtraPilot to version vX.Y.Z
- Follow the installer. You may need to grant permission to install an app from an unknown source
- Once the installation is complete, WingtraPilot will close and prompt you to reopen it. Click Open
- If the installation fails, you can also download it manually by clicking Download WingtraPilot 2.21.0 and installing it manually
Step 3: Update WingtraOne firmware
-
Drones GEN I
/images/screenshots_v1.9/WiP_update_updateFirmware.jpg)
-
- Make sure WingtraOne is powered off
- Remove the camera SD card from WingtraOne and insert it into the tablet. Since there are two different camera systems, the firmware update process is slightly different depending on whether you use RX1 or QX1/RedEdge/Altum. Specifically, when loading the firmware file onto the SD card, the location for QX1, RedEdge MX, and Altum is not in the camera but must be inserted into the aircraft with an SD card adapter

- Insert the camera SD card with the provided USB adapter into the tablet. If you have the new SD card adapter, follow the instructions on how to use it correctly.
- Click Select the camera SD card to copy version vX.Y.Z and choose the SD card. Do not select a folder inside the SD card—select the root directory

NOTE: If the process takes too long or if the update file cannot be copied to the SD card, try formatting the SD card on the tablet or a computer
-
- Once the copy is complete, remove the SD card from the tablet and reinsert it into the camera or drone, depending on the camera configuration
-
Drones GEN II
-
- Make sure WingtraOne is powered off
- Remove the WingtraOne SD card

- Insert the WingtraOne SD card into the tablet using the provided USB adapter
- Click Select the WingtraOne SD card to copy version vX.Y.Z and select the SD card. Do not select a folder inside the SD card—select the root directory

NOTE: If the process takes too long or if the update file cannot be copied to the SD card, try formatting the SD card on the tablet or a computer
-
- Once the copy is complete, remove the SD card from the tablet and reinsert it into the WingtraOne
- Power on WingtraOne and connect telemetry to the tablet
- Once connected, an update dialog should appear, prompting you to start the WingtraOne update. If it does not appear, click the General tab to bring up the update prompt
/images/screenshots_v1.9/WiP_Update_FirmwareDetected_window.jpg)
- Click Update now to begin the update process. Do not turn off WingtraOne during the update
- WingtraPilot will notify you once the update is successful. Click OK to complete the process
If the WingtraOne update fails, power cycle WingtraOne and try again. If it continues to fail, check the troubleshooting section below
Step 4: Open the manual
- Go to the My Files application and open Manual_vX.Y.Z.pdf located in /device storage/WingtraPilot/Releases/vX.Y.Z/
- Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the manual
- To add a shortcut to the manual on your home screen, go to My Files, select the manual file (long press for a second), click More in the upper right corner, and choose Add shortcut to home screen
Step 5: Verification
- Restart and open WingtraPilot (press the menu button on the tablet, located to the left of the home button, and close the application, then restart it)
- In the Welcome menu, check if the version number is X.Y.Z
- Turn on WingtraOne, connect telemetry to the tablet, go to Settings > General, and check if the WingtraOne firmware version is vX.Y.Z
- Open the manual from the home screen
- If the version number is incorrect or you have any doubts about the version, submit a support request
Troubleshooting
Nothing happens after placing the firmware on the SD card and inserting it into the drone
First, ensure that the drone is powered on and that telemetry is connected (indicated by a green icon in the upper right corner). The firmware can be updated via the camera SD card or the wing SD card
There are three categorical reasons why the update file on the wing will not recognize the update after the tablet has updated.
1.) Problema de la cámara - The camera is not connected, and you are trying to update via the camera's SD card. To verify the camera connection, check the color of the camera icon in WingtraPilot. It should be black. Also, check step 8 to see if the pre-flight camera check passes. If the check turns red or the camera icon is not black, please refer to our Camera Troubleshooting section. When turning on the drone, it is helpful to look at the back of the camera screen to see if it boots up or remains stuck on a message screen.
If the camera connection is correct, disconnect the camera’s USB-C cable from the wing and try the update process using the wing’s alternate SD card slot. Try writing log files to ensure the SD card is working and connecting properly. This ensures the wing is functioning correctly.
2.) File Location Issue - If the issue persists, check the SD card to ensure the update file is in the root folder. Insert the SD card into your computer and click on the drive. You should see a file named "WingtraOne_vX.Y.Z.tar" in the root directory, below the folders. If it is in the correct location, move the file out of the folder, reformat the SD card, and then transfer the update file back onto the SD card, ensuring that only the update file is on it.
Reinsert the SD card into the drone, connect telemetry, open the top cover, and check the camera screen. If a message appears, press Enter. Always safely remove hardware and properly eject media or the USB drive.
Your tablet may not default to the root directory, so you will need to navigate to the correct drive location. Click on the three-line menu bar in the upper left corner.

Click on the USB drive.

This will take you to the correct root location. Do not place the file inside a folder.

3.) SD Card or File Corruption - If the file location is correct and the SD card has been reformatted, there are a few more things to check. First, ensure that the SD card is the correct type, is functional, has enough space, and that the adapter is working.
Reformat the card, send a photo of it to support, try replacing the card, test with a new adapter, and check if the SD card is locked.
In some cases, issues may occur while transferring or downloading the file from a network, resulting in a corrupted file with missing data or a file size of 0KB. Ensure that the "WingtraOne_vX.Y.Z.tar" file has more than 0KB of data. Contact technical support for a verified working file if the tablet's file is corrupted, or restart the tablet update process with a stable connection. If the adapter is faulty, you can transfer the files via email.
The system should now prompt you to update. If the download and copy process within the update tab in WingtraPilot does not work automatically, you can download it through the link provided in step 2 above. You can use either a tablet or a computer to transfer the update file to the SD card.
If using a computer, always eject the USB properly.
