Move the Altum camera to a WingtraOne GEN II mount

Find in this article the step-by-step instructions on how to remove an Altum camera from a WingtraOne GEN I Altum mount and insert it in a WingtraOne GEN II compatible mount.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1. Remove the Altum camera attached to the mount from WingtraOne GEN I

Altum_cover

  • Power off the WingtraOne and lay it down on a flat surface, e.g., table, with the nose pointing toward you
  • Open the top cover with the opening for the DLS sensor

  • Unplug the USB-C universal payload connector on the top right side by pulling the cable out

altum screw

  • Use the Torx screwdriver to unscrew the four screws—one in each corner of the payload area
💡 The screws are attached to the camera mount. You do not need to worry about losing them inside.
  • Lift out the camera mount assembly

Step 2. Remove the Altum from the mount

  • Remove the retainer by pressing on the PUSH button
  • Remove the lens protector from the camera
  • Push the camera up from the sensor side so that it comes out of the mount

  • Remove the Wi-Fi dongle on the side of the camera

  • Squeeze the retainer pins on the camera cable connector and pull it out
Altum unplug DLS
  • To remove the DLS sensor, first, unplug the cable connecting to the mount
Altum unscrew DLS
  • Then, take the Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the 2 screws at the bottom side of the DLS tower
    Hold the DLS sensor while unscrewing the screws to make sure it will not fall down
  • Remove the DLS sensor from the tower and put it aside

 

Step 3. Place the Altum camera into the GEN II mount

Put the GEN I mount aside and take the Altum GEN II upgrade kit, which includes the items you can see below:

Altum kit

Altum plug DLS
  • Take the tower with the cables and plug the cable on the top into the DLS sensor
  • Place the DLS sensor on the top of the tower, so that it fits well
Altum screw DLS
  • Take the T6 screwdriver and tighten the screws from inside of the tower, at the locations indicated in the picture (you might need to adjust the DLS so that you can find the holes with the screw)
Altum CCU
  • Place the camera so that the SD card slot is on the left side

  • Take the camera control unit (CCU) and place it on top of the Altum so that the Wingtra logo is readable

  • Take two of the new M3x10mm screws and screw them on the top and bottom positions as indicated in the picture (use the Torx screwdriver from the pilot box)
Altum black connector
  • Place the tower with the DLS on top of the camera with the cables on the right side as pictured
  • Screw in the remaining 2 M3x10mm screws
Altum black plug
  • Plug the black connector into the camera
Altum white connector
  • Take the white connector and plug it into the white plug of the CCU in the tower
  • Take the USB-A to micro USB cable and plug the micro USB into the right side of the tower
Altum USB A
  • Plug the USB-A side into the Altum

Altum WiFi
  • Place the Wi-Fi dongle on the side of the camera
Altum USB C
  • Place the USB-C connector into the hole in the tower
Altum in GEN II mount
  • Place the camera into the Altum GEN II mount
  • Press the buttons on the beamer to lock the camera to the mount

Step 4. Place the Altum attached to the new mount into WingtraOne GEN II

  • Use the Torx screwdriver to tighten the four screws in the four corners of the payload area. Make sure you don't overtighten them (maximum torque 0.4 Nm - use two fingers tightness).
  • Plug the USB-C universal payload connector into the drone
  • Close the top cover
  • Do a test flight
